Perio Protect Method Bacteria cause gum disease.  The bacteria on this slide grew on a special carrier inserted into the patients periodontal pocket.  the bacteria exist in the form of a biofilm which protects the individual members and allows the bacteria to function as a "community".  This patient has received prior multiple conventional treatments, but the bacteria continue to grow.  Left un-treated the biofilm will continue to grow and develop causing a host inflammatory response. This is a Perio Tray.  The Perio Tray is an FDA cleared medical device that can deliver doctor prescribed medications to the gingival sulcus or periodontal pocket.  The Perio Tray is custom fabricated from patient's models by an FDA registerred laboratory..A special seal is fabricated to direct the medications into the sulcus or periodontal pocket.  The medications are capable of killing or controlling the bacteria responsible for the disease. The Perio Tray is worn by the patient in accordance with the doctor's directions.  The tray enables the delivery of the doctor selected medications into the periodontal pocket as observed in this video clip.  The medications are responsible for controlling the cause of the disease. Here we observe the bacteria that have been treated by the Perio Protect Method.  Comparing this view with the view before treatment enables a rapid recognition of the treatment.  The more dangerous rods and gram- obligate anaerobes are observed to be killed first.  The remaining bacteria will be addressed as the treatment continues.  95% of the bacteia were found to be killed by the initial research completed by Dr. Costerton and Schaudinn at USC Dental School, Biofilm Division. 98% of the bacteria are observed killed within 7 days. of using the Perio Protect Method.  All of the gram- obligate anaerobes (the more virulent cause of disease) were found to be killed first, followed by the rest of the biofilm community.  The cause of disease is being controlled and the host can begin to heal. 99.98% of the bacteria are killed by 12 to 17 days of treatment.  This demonstrates that the patient home-care method is able to direct medications of the doctor's choice into the periodontal pocket and kill the cause of disease.  The Perio Protect Method has been reported by patients to be easy, simple, reliable and comfortable at a fraction of the cost of conventional treatments.  Seldom is surgery required as the medications control the cause of disease. Patients heal with the cause of disease is controlled.  The measurements observed here are pocket probing depths before and during treatment.  Normal pocket probing depths are measured in millimeters and should be 3mm or less.  The initial pockets were filled with infective bacteria.  The pockets returned to normal as the bacteria were controlled and healing occurred.  Note, none of the pockets are greater than normal. Using the Perio Protect Method for this patient also improved her overall health indicators.  Inflammatory proteins in the blood decreased, while good cholesterol (HDL) increased and bad cholesteroal (LDL) decreased.  All of the health indicators improved as the patient was able to control the cause of disease.
